Make Creamy Brazilian Limeade for hot afternoon

Often called Limonada Suíça, this drink is actually made with limes, not lemons. The secret to its signature creamy, frothy texture is the combination of whole limes and sweetened condensed milk.

The Ingredients

  • 4 juicy limes (organic or well-scrubbed, as you use the skins)

  • 4 cups cold water

  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk (adjust to your sweetness preference)

  • 2 cups ice cubes

The 5-Minute Method

  1. Prep the Limes: Wash the limes thoroughly. Cut off the ends (the “nubs”) and slice each lime into 8 wedges.

  2. The Quick Pulse: Place the lime wedges and the 4 cups of water into a blender. Pulse only 5–8 times. > Tip: Do not over-blend! If you blend the limes into a puree, the drink will become incredibly bitter from the white pith. You just want to extract the juice and oils from the skin.

  3. Strain: Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a pitcher. Discard the pulp and skins.

  4. Sweeten & Chill: Pour the strained lime water back into the blender. Add the sweetened condensed milk and the ice. Blend on high until the drink is frothy and the ice is mostly crushed.

  5. Serve Immediately: This drink is best enjoyed the second it’s made. If it sits, the lime oils will eventually turn the drink bitter.

Quick Tips for Success

  • Remove the Pith: If you are sensitive to bitterness, slice the limes and cut out the white “core” or center string of the lime before blending.

  • “Dairy-Free” Swap: Use sweetened condensed coconut milk for a tropical, vegan-friendly version.

  • Consistency: For a thicker, slushie-like texture, add an extra cup of ice during the final blend.
